i predict a riot (ous denoucniation of the ruling elite. word)

Free Image Hosting

the press are all f***ing over our trusty metropolitan police's grave predictions
of some kind of anarchist bloodbath at the G20.
where random bankers will be plucked from the suited masses,
and summarily executed to the baying of the crowd.

no. we are not idiots.

if you turn up in riot vans and riot gear and an bad attitude
what do you think will happen?

a matter of state i guess.
in our glorious democracy...

national service!
that's what i give 'em
a bit of discipline.

give a man a piece of land and he'll be grateful,
give a man a gun and a piece of land
and he'll be more than grateful.

so then, this dangerous protest you so dramatically predict.
bankers burning in the street,
death toll = 0
better things the police could be doing = lots

salsa etc
after i get my dongle, i'll be able to upload some salsa pix from my new celly. In the mean time, i wanted to share with you info that i'm sure meeping_kitten and cathedrow already know about?

future mega meetups, salsa, etc IMPORTANT INFORMATION! must read...Collapse )

Well, I think everyone here who is interested in participating that Mega Meetup type event should sign up at http://www.everytwoweeks.com. Additionally, there is a forum on there (click on the link "forum" to the left of http://www.everytwoweeks.com/twoweeks/; if you try to access it from the homepage, the left hand menu doesn't appear.)

As you know, we're going to be keeping our lj meetup group on meetup.com. This is just for those who enjoyed or would like to participate in "mega meetup" type events.

Hope you guys have a great weekend

Changing the way we do things - a proposal
I don't think the meetup thing is exactly what I want. After a ponder, and a chat with a few members, I've got a suggestion which might work better for me, and for others. So heres the proposal.

Currently the meetings are strictly timed, with a fixed venue, with a fixed organiser - and that causes problems. Its inflexible - the group is 'owned' by the organiser, and the organiser alone. For example, at Oriental City, we decided to change venue to the Science Museum. But no-one at the meeting could arrange that, because the organiser was not present.

So here comes my proposal.

We aim to have a meeting at least once a month. Suggestions for venues come from posts to this group. These could be existing venues, or more interestingly, tied to special events. (For example, a particularly interesting debate at the Dana Centre or a film premiere.)

The advantages - by making things more flexible, a meeting will become an event, in which people can share experiences. Meetings will be ever changing, and be much more stimulating.

The disadvantages - meetings would have very little to do with MeetUp.com, which kind of defeats the object of the whole group.

I can see both sides, and I'm not sure which way to go on this. But frankly from the attendance numbers, the last two meetings had a poor attendance, and I'd hate to see this group die.

Oh - and one last thing. If you contributed to the decision making process for a meeting, you would have a moral obligation to turn up. Its only fair...

So what do you think?

Meetup charges
I've just seen the email MeetUp have sent out about group charges. I'm not sure what to think - but 20 USD a month is really rather excessive unless attendance improves - particularly as we are currently running two MeetUp groups in tandem. $40 - ouch.

I was left wondering - what do we actually need MeetUp.com for? Should we drop them and use this community instead?

Whats your opinion? Would you be willing to pay to keep the group running?

there's a new mega meetup event going on ya'll
There is a Mega Meetup next Wed 20th April. For those of you that are new to Mega Meetup it is where several Meetup Groups with similar interests in Central London get together at the same venue at the same time in order to ensure a really good turnout of people.

Date - Wednesday, April 20, 7:00 PM
At - Salsa (aka Bar Salsa) 96 Charing Cross Road WC2H 0JG
Time - 7pm
Event - Mega Meetup Salsa Night

The Mega Meetup Event at Bar Salsa is at 96 Charing Cross Road, near Leciester Leicester (can you tell i copied/pasted this too early in the morn) Square tube station. This event is totally Free - That includes Free Entry and a Free Salsa Lesson starting at promptly at 7:30pm. We've done this 3 times at The Metropolitan Bar next Door to Baker Street and Once before at Bar Salsa. A very special meeting - and you're invited!
Hi one and all.

After a good chat about at the last meeting about the benefits of weekday and weekend meetings, and if the venue is ideal or not, a proposal emerged. Why not get together on a Sunday for a day out.

The place: Oriental City
The day: Sunday 3rd April - This Sunday

Its really easy to get to for anyone in London - its right by a tube station. And its really easy to get to by car too - its on the A5 and has ample car parking.

tomorrow is the lj london meetup
tomorrow is the lj london meetup

we will be discussing:

First, I would like to discuss frienditto. As always, I love my lj drama. I've never demanded we discuss it til now. Since it is such an interesting issue, though, in regards to how private should a public journal should be. It also has raised the question as to why would a person want to commit in writing their private thoughts to, eh, internet strangers. (though i don't really think of you guys as strangers.

Second, I would LOVE to discuss this entry entry.

And, as always, I would love to discuss anything going on in livejournal_uk in general. Can you guys please comment with what you think about this regardless of whether your going to attend?

Thanks
take care

London LiveJournal Meetup
Tuesday 22nd February 2005

Tuesday night is our next meetup. For those of you who don't usually attend, it's a chance for you to introduce yourself to the group. So if you are still in London Tuesday night, come on down to the London LiveJournal Meetup at the Candid Cafe at 8pm. It's a chance to meetup with other LJers. It would be GREAT if you RSVP at the website in advance but you can just turn up if you want.

The Candid Gallery Cafe is at 3 Torrens St in Angel Islington EC1V 1NQ

next meetup
so, I was talking to Peter, the organiser of these meetups and I was suggesting that Sunday afternoons are the best times for me. I mean, I can still make the Tuesday but hitting me right before payday is almost always a bust :(

What do you guys think about the meetup being the first Sunday of the month around 5pm? Maybe not at Candid Cafe. The last meetup (Jan 25 with myself and few others) we barely got seats!!! I wouldn't mind an outdoor/indoor pub that isn't up any stairs but has reasonably priced beverages and snacky foods. Maybe even meals. I dunno

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK???
